The Buddy System

It's a very simple concept. That seems like common sense, yet it's so easily and quickly forgotten.

If you intend to travel with someone who does not match your travel aspirations in multiple ways. Then you should get a buddy for yourself and for your travel partner that has similar aspirations. It may mean finding someone before departure but rest assured it is not hard to find someone at your destination!

The point of travelling is to experience new things! Don't let a bad travel partner(s) ruin your travelling plans! Meeting new people or bringing some of your own is a great way of getting around incompatible travel partner(s).

Some examples..

Economic Incompatibility:

Rich friend with middle class friend.

Buddy System Implemented:
Rich friend invites another rich friend, middle class invites another middle class friend.
The group notes which activities they agree on and go their separate ways on things they do not.
-Rich friends in Paris order crepes and expensive coffees for breakfast at an expensive cafe near to their hotel.
-Middle class friends eat the complementary continental breakfast offered at the hotel.
After breakfast the group meets up and they both go to see the Palace of Versailles.

Religious Incompatibility:

Non-Religious friend with religious friend.

Buddy System Implemented:

Non-Religious friend brings along a fellow non-religious friend. They go on a wine tasting tour. While, the religious friend brings a fellow religious friend and they pray together in the Sistine Chapel.

Social  Incompatibility:

Extroverted socializer and an introverted artist.

Buddy System Implemented: 
Extroverted socializer joins an Spanish pub crawl. Introverted artist enjoys a tour at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

Relationship Status Incompatibility:

Married sister and single sister.

Buddy System Implemented:
Married sister invites husband on trip, they have a romantic picnic on the English countryside. Or she brings a married friend and they go to the theatre. The single sister goes to a singles mixer and karaoke night.

Travel Goals Incompatibility:

Athletic boyfriend, sun tan obsessed girlfriend.

Buddy System Implemented:

She joins the other sun bathing beauties at the beach, while you play beach volleyball nearby. While travelling you're with someone for nearly 24hrs a day. Healthy relationships require room and space to do other things that interest you. Ladies, he still loves you if on your anniversary trip he spends an hour playing beach volleyball or tennis with the guys. And guys, she won't divorce you if you forego a trip to Lafayette and decide to check out Parc de Prince Football stadium with some fans from the hotel instead.

TLDR....

When you travel its important to have away time from your travel buddies! Regardless of your relationship to them. We are all humans, and we all don't have the exact same interests all the time. Sometimes compromise should mean going to two different places and making some new friends! Talk to your significant other about it when you return, it's nice to have different stories to tell each other and your friends when they ask about how your trip went.
